Volunteer FAQ

Who can volunteer at TOA?
If you’re over 18 and have a good level of English you’ll be just fine. Some roles do require German skills however, so check before you apply for a role. Other than that all we really want from a volunteer is someone who can perform their task, maintain a professional and friendly demeanour throughout the festival, and turn up on time.

Can TOA cover my costs?
Unfortunately not. We can’t reimburse any flight or accommodation costs you accrue volunteering for us at Tech Open Air. However, we’ve got your ticket & meals covered.

Do I need to purchase a ticket?
No. You will be free to enjoy everything else that TOA16 offers based on completion of your assigned shifts. However, if you fail to complete, arrive late or leave early for any of your volunteer shifts, you will no longer be entitled to attend the rest of TOA16.

Will I receive training before my first shift?
We will provide volunteers with a briefing to run through the TOA16 Volunteer Program, the volunteer roles and answer any questions. Date and location are to be confirmed.

How many shifts do I have to complete?
Volunteers will complete 2-3 shifts throughout the event. Shift lengths vary depending on volunteer role, but are typically between three and four hours long. While TOA16 takes place on July 13, 14, 15 there are also volunteer shifts available before and after the festival (details need to be discussed with the volunteer team). Morning shifts begin at 8am, while afternoon shifts begin at 1pm. Please note that these times may vary.

When do applications close?
Volunteer positions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that registering does not guarantee your volunteer position.

Can Tech Open Air sponsor my visa application?
We can’t get directly involved with your respective embassy, but we can supply a document confirming your involvement with TOA that would support your application.

What you do with the limelight is completely up to you. In the past startups have gotten funding, found talent, and expanded their userbase through Startup Alley. You can too.

Before you continue, we just want to let you know a little more about the Startup Alley concept, as we're planning something a little different from your average exhibition space. Our goal is to help you realise your most creative ideas to ensure our audience connects with your brand. Rather than pop ups and free pens, we really want to create engaging experiences that will make sure people remember your company. As such it may be that the stalls take a little more planning than normal, but this is to ensure the best experience for your brand.
